My work explores the rituals we create to bring beauty, comfort, and familiarity into our everyday lives. At the heart of my current practice is the recurring image of a single flower or flowers in a vessel. This isolated flower, never tied to a specific species, represents not just the beauty of nature, but the human impulse to do things that spark joy.
Flowers in vases hold a place in the cyclical rhythms of our homes. We bring them in, they exist in space, they wilt, and then we replace them with new flowers, starting the ritual again. This echoes an ongoing human need: to fill our spaces, again and again, with life and beauty and joy. In a world often weighed down by uncertainty, anxiety, and emotional complexity, I am drawn to these repeated gestures that may ease the burden of existence, if only for a moment.
My process is intuitive and organic, grounded in a continuous dialogue with my previous work, sketches, and the visual world around me. In finding shapes within previous pieces—forms that might suggest a vase, a flower, or simply an abstract shape or texture – new ideas are sparked, allowing each new piece to evolve from the last.
I’m drawn to experimentation and play. I work across surfaces and media, exploring without rigid expectations. I believe that when I let go of seriousness or self-imposed rules, it allows me to take risks and discover new paths and possibilities for the work in front of me. I feel rewarded when the piece tells me where it wants to go, or when it is finished. For me, the beauty of making lies in the never-ending journey of learning and discovering.
